Coming from Germany, we recommend traveling via the Tauern Tunnel motorway.
At Bad Gastein / Böckstein, you can comfortably drive your car onto the car ferry, which takes you through the Hohe Tauern in 12 km. Once you arrive on the other side, continue your journey in Mallnitz; from there it is another 24 km, first going down 8m to Obervellach, then 8 km straight ahead to Flattach.
Attention, the Tauern Tunnel will be closed from November 18, 2024, to July 15, 2025, during this period use the Tauern motorway up to the Spittal exit.

Warning, the navigation system will usually guide you around via the Tauern motorway to Spittal, which is indeed a big detour. Therefore, enter "Car Ferry Tauernbahn Böckstein" into the GPS first. The trains run hourly, always at the full hour +20, and the loading ends at the latest 15 minutes after the full hour.

A trip costs EUR 20.40/car, which is paid directly at the car ticket booth upon passing through.

Return ferries depart each hour at :50, last loading is at :45. We recommend leaving the chalet by 10, at the latest 20 minutes after the full hour, to ensure you are on time for the train.

Attention: Closure of the Tauern Tunnel from April 12 to May 17, 2023, and November 18, 2024, to July 14, 2025. During these periods, your navigation system will typically guide you via the Tauern motorway to the Spittal exit, then through the Mölltal to Flattach.

Coming from the south, you can either drive
Venice - Udine - Villach - Spittal and then continue through the Mölltal or you come from the west
Bolzano - Lienz - Iselsberg - Winklern and then further through the Mölltal to the Mölltal Glacier entrance.

Take advantage of the shopping opportunity at the ADEG Flattach at the junction heading towards the Mölltal Glacier; this is the last supermarket before you go another 8 km uphill, until you reach the small district of Innerfragant. Cross the small bridge there, then you will see your holiday destination just above the Innerfragant landlord around the corner.
